What is stored, and where
Learning Kit runs entirely in your browser. Profiles, scores, medals, saved questions and game progress are written to your browser's own storage on the device you are using. They are not uploaded, not backed up to us, and not visible to anyone else, including us.
There is no account, no email address, no password and no login. We do not know who uses this, how many people use it, or what any child answered.
What we do not do
- No analytics or tracking of any kind.
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No third party scripts. Even the fonts are served from our own domain rather than a font service, so no request about you leaves for anywhere else.
- No cookies used to identify or follow you.
Backups are yours to move
Because progress lives on one device, you can save a backup file from the profile menu at any time and restore it on another device. That file is written wherever your browser saves downloads, and it never passes through us.
Deleting everything
Removing a profile in the app deletes everything belonging to that child from the device. Clearing the site data for the app in your browser settings removes all of it at once.
Children
Learning Kit is built to be used by a child, usually with a parent nearby. Because it collects nothing and has no accounts, there is no personal information for a child to give it and none for us to hold.
The paid version, and what it would change
Everything above describes Learning Kit as it exists today, which is the free, offline app, and it will keep being true for anyone who never signs in. A paid version is planned. It does not exist yet: there is no account to create, no subscription to buy and no server running.
It is worth saying plainly what it would change, because the honest answer is not "nothing". The features it would add, an AI tutor, printable progress reports for a parent, and sync between devices, cannot work without a server, and a server means some data leaves the device. It would need:
- A parent account, which means an email address and a password. The account holder is the parent, not the child.
- Each child's progress, so it can be synced between devices and reported on.
- Whatever a child types to the tutor, because a tutor that answers has to receive the question.
What it would not do: sell anything to anyone, carry advertising, or gather usage tracking beyond what the reports themselves need. A profile name is a nickname by choice rather than a real name, which is a deliberate limit on what a leak could ever be worth.
All of it would be opt in, it would be described in full here before it ships, and the offline app would keep working even if the server went away entirely.
